In response to the Joint Mission 100 Climate Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030 ( Cities Mission) and Mission Adaptation to Climate Change( Climate Mission), the project ClimaGen unites 9 European Cities (Belgrade,Gdańsk, Tartu, Torino, Trondheim, Cluj-Napoca, Eindhoven, Gernika and Thessaloniki) on one platform to enhance climate resilience and support the transition to low-carbon and cohesive cities and regions. The project will adopt a social innovation approach and bring together all the city councils, civil society actors, businesses, cultural and academic institutions( transversal experts, local partners and stakeholders in each city) to collectively transform vulnerable urban neighbourhoods into resilient, climate neutral, regenerated public places, ultimately enhancing the livelihoods and socio- economic opportunities of vulnerable communities. These aim will be supported by 5 key components of Climagen
1)Create a ClimaLab
2) Lay the foundation of ClimaGreens for the integration of renaturing measures
3) Monitoring progress with ClimaImpact
4) Guidance to achieve the desired results with ClimaValue and
5) Embracing citizen science based approaches through ClimaGen with games to engage all partners and stakeholders in a participatory manner.

The City of Torino will consider using the post- industrial Mirafiori neighbourhood in the city’s southern part as its primary demonstration site. Particularly, it will focus on the Living Lab situated in the area of Parco Piemonte along the Sangone stream where removing of the spontaneous vegetable gardens along with creating new gardens are already in the planning process.
With the collaboration of Fondazione Mirafiori, Orti Generali and Links foundation the city will aim to connect its historical significance with social equity and ecological sustainability through collaborative and integrated urban planning enhanced by augmented reality facilities
The reconversion project will assist to develop positive change in an area with existing potential conflicts of interest thus benefiting local stakeholders as well as the larger Metropolitan district. In the project ClimaGen the tasks will be thoroughly aligned to the city’s NEB Manifesto.
The city of Torino will use the ClimaGen budget to reinforce the river banks in a naturalistic way by planting indigenous trees, integrating innovative nature based landscape design as well as organising a landscape festival in collaboration with Fondazione Mirafiori to attract residents and visitors to explore and enjoy a peaceful walk along the riverfront.
The City of Torino will utilize the Climalab to implement a decision making process that comprises various sectors from the local and regional authorities with a cross-cutting and interdisciplinary methodology to promote evidence based decisions. Through this project Torino will be able to set a great paradigm for sustainable urban food systems. The city of Torino will lead the way in initiating circular food systems by using local resources and waste streams for food production within an urban environment, encouraged by the involvement of the Mirafiori foundation associated with local food provisions. In this path the city will also communicate its insights on how to optimise plantation, harvest, reproduction processes and food processing loop within urban environments with other ClimaGen demonstration areas and will serve as a model for implementing climate resilient regeneration and renaturing in vulnerable neighbourhoods.
This project was funded by the HORIZON EUROPE program.
