Inauguration of the Capture Your City Photography Exhibition

On 23 September 2024 at 6.30 p.m., under the arcades of Piazza Palazzo di Città, the City of Torino, together with the partners Urban Lab and CAMERA – Centro Italiano di Fotografia, will inaugurate the photographic exhibition dedicated to the competition Capture Your City.

The inauguration will be opened by the Councillor for Ecological and Digital Transition, Innovation, Mobility and Transport of the City of Torino, Chiara Foglietta with the participation of the President of Urban Lab, Piero Boccardo, and the curator of CAMERA – Centro Italiano di Fotografia, Monica Poggi.

The competition, promoted by the Danish Architecture Centre (DAC) in Copenhagen, took place from 1 March to 1 May 2024 in several European cities, and was widely supported by photography enthusiasts who were asked to immortalise a new and more sustainable beauty in their city. At the end of the competition, an international jury selected the 56 finalist photos that will be presented at the opening of the exhibition and will remain on display until March 2025.

The exhibition, curated by Urban Lab, and the inauguration will be held under the arcades of Piazza Palazzo di Città, where the photographs are printed in large format on sheets hung around the perimeter of the square.

The initiative, now in its ninth edition, has expanded to an international audience this year, thanks to the New European Bauhaus project DESIRE – An Irresistible Circular Society, in which DAC, the City of Turin and 22 other European institutions and organisations are partners, which aims to experiment with the creation of sustainable, attractive and inclusive urban spaces.

The theme of the exhibition and competition was ‘New Beauty’. This theme encourages us to see beauty in unexpected places in our cities, and particularly in urban spaces where transformation pursues criteria of sustainability and inclusiveness. All this testifies to the role that the principles of the New European Bauhaus play in the transformation process of our city.

The Danish Architecture Centre is an international cultural institution that creates engaging experiences and organises national and international debates on the topics of architecture and design.

In addition to local partners and the DAC – Danish Architecture Centre, the exhibition was also promoted by the MAO (Ljubljana), Arcam (Amsterdam), Fabbrica del Vapore (Milan) and the City of Riga.

The exhibition will remain open and visible until 23 March 2025 and will be free of charge.
