On Monday 18 November at 6 p.m., on the occasion of the European Week for Waste Reduction (SERR), the City of Turin, in collaboration with Urban Lab, is organising a special meeting with the companies selected from the ‘Circular Food’ call, launched by Torino City Lab, which has led to 7 innovative experiments in the circular economy in the production, distribution and marketing of food.
About a quarter of the sorted waste produced by the City of Torino concerns the organic fraction, so what can we do together to minimise waste? We need to rethink habits, consumption and production processes starting with food waste prevention and valorisation actions.
The event entitled ‘RE-TASTE TORINO. All the taste of circular food in the city’ will allow participants to dialogue directly with some of the entrepreneurs, start-ups and non-profit organisations innovating in Turin on the theme of circular food, through a pathway with dedicated stations to discover the developments of the 7 Torino City Lab experiments, and to have opportunities for exchange and tasting.
Thanks to the ‘Circular Food’ call, unsold food and waste will become healthy snacks with the help of drying techniques, dough from apple juice will generate new bakery products, several city schools will receive healthy products for recess, new technologies to valorise food surpluses and a ‘community coin’ to revive wasteful food will be tested. In addition, we will talk about circularity in the urban farmstead and much more…
Introduced by the Councillor for Ecological Transition (Chiara Foglietta), the President of Urban Lab (Piero Boccardo), Atlante del Cibo (Franco Fassio) and the City offices involved in projects and actions for an integrated – and circular – city food policy.
The SERR 2024 (food waste) theme will be presented, as well as the objectives of the Torino City Lab ‘Circular Food’ call for innovation and the new system for the collection of exhausted vegetable oils for domestic use.
